Recycled Sewing

Hi my name is Abby Vargas.  Back in October 2001, I sold my first set of girl dresses made from vintage tablecloth fabric at an antique faire and Poppylarity was born.  Fast forward 8 years and I now have over 20 different items that I create and sell at local faires.  I’ve decided it is time to impart my techniques through this blog and turn many of my designs into pattern that can be purchased.

Why is my blog called Recycled Sewing?  Because I love the challenge of turning the fabric from one item into a beautiful new item that could be worn, carried or displayed.  I’ve also challenged myself into cutting waste which has brought forth many accessory pieces to my line.

I truly do not do what I do for money, but for the mental challenge.  Creating new things from recycled items has challenges not provided when using new fabrics fresh off the bolt.

I am a highly eclectic (and sometime eccentric) person.  I love modernism, Victorian era, retro, Spanish, Danish, you name it.  What a better way to express myself than create mixed styled pieces from other objects.

 Peace and Harmony,

 Abby
